We Recycle

Dry leaves are spread into the steer yard as bedding. Once saturated, they are taken out and spread into long piles called "windrows." All manure from our farm is composted.

Tuthills use a windrow turner to mix and speed up the composting process. Compost is stable and ready in less than a year.

Compost is applied 1-2" in depth, then the field is dragged once more before planting. Tuthills like keeping the compost in the top 6" of the soil.
